The largest of the River Shannons lakes,Lough Derg, is an ideal spot for a variety of leisure activities including angling and a whole host of water sports. The village itself, which has won 'Ireland's Tidy Towns Competition' on more than one occasion, has a lively nightlife with an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants. There is usually a local market sale on at the weekend during the summer, in the town hall.  Old Court Castle and Portumna Castle and Forest Park are also worth visiting.
